The Flying Fathers Hockey Game. The Flying Fathers will play a fundraising hockey game against the youth of l’École Secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge on February 19th at 7 p.m. at the Fort-Coulonge Arena. Proceeds from the game will be split between St. Peter’s Parish, Fort Coulonge, and the High School. Adult tickets are $10.00 and children 4 – 17 are $5 each. Tickets can be purchased at l’École Secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge, the Chancery Office in Pembroke (188 Renfrew St.), Fr. Réal Ouellette or Fr. Justin Bertrand. Ahoy, Mateys! Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance will be presented by the Don Bosco Drama Club of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College.  This classic musical comedy combines pirates, police, and petticoats for two hours of fun. March 1 and 2 at 7:00 pm, March 3 at 2 pm.  Performances at MV High School in Barry’s Bay. Tickets are: $12 in advance, $15 at the door, $10 for students and seniors, free for kids under 6, and family rate of $45. West Pontiac Connects:   Will be starting a new session of skills link participants on March 4th, 2019.  We are recruiting people who are interested in taking the program. OUR LADY OF LOURDES – 280 Lourdesview Dr, Pembroke, ON:  Will be hosting a Concert Choir by the Redeemer University College on Wednesday, February 20^th at 8 p.m.  Free entry, food band donations would be appreciated.  Everyone welcome.

On Feb. 26 Bishop N.Z. Lorrain council 1531 will host a series of speakers from Pembroke Community Living.  The session starts at 7 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus Hall on Ellis Avenue. The event is open to all members of the Knights of Columbus, their families and the community at large.

There will be four performances of the annual Irish play this year. March 10 and 17 at 1:30 p.m. and March 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. All will be at the Knights of Columbus  Hall on Ellis Street in Pembroke. Tickets are available at all three Mulvihill Pharmacy locations in Pembroke, O’Grady’s in Eganville and the Wilberforce/North Algona Town Hall.

Tuesday Social Club:  we are collecting warm clothing for men and women for the Shepherd’s of Good Hope. Please label packages as Men, Women or Either. Deliver to Harrington hall early Tuesday afternoons until 3 p.m. or leave in box provided at the back of the churches. Work socks are especially needed. We will be doing this until the last weekend of February. We guarantee all clothing will be used.

Good Catholic Humour

So there’s a wonderful fish and chips shop down on the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore, not far from where I live. Monks run it, and being a good Catholic, I figure I ought to support such a worthy endeavor. The reputation is that the place serves the best fish and chips in the world, so I go there and buy a meal.

And by gosh, they are the best fish and chips in the world! So good, in fact, that I have to go back to the kitchen and thank the chefs. And there they are, laboring in monkly robes over a hot stove. “Excuse me sir,” I say, “are you the fish friar?”

“No, son. I’m the chip monk.”

Fr. Tim Sabbatical Notes:

1) Boy, did I pick a good winter to take my sabbatical? It seems to me that the snow hasn’t stopped up there since I left. Please take care shoveling all the white stuff that keeps falling from the sky. That activity can be deadly. Please know too that I’m doing all I can to pray for you down here so that the snow scourge will soon come to an end asap! After all, what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t do at least that?   2) Now that I’ve completed my first month of my sabbatical, it’s time to offer you a bit of a report on how it’s going. The short answer is GREAT! Living in a Seminary has rooted me into a spiritual community where prayer time throughout the day is guaranteed… and God has been very kind to me during these times spent with him and him alone. It’s also great on an intellectual and academic level. I get to spend many hours every day reading books and articles both in my room and in the library and am growing in my deeper appreciation of friendship as away to grow in the religious and moral life. It is becoming clear to me that this time of study is going to result in my writing a book on the subject. I’ve already sketched out almost 20 chapter outlines and have started to write. It’s going to take more time than I have here to complete the writing process, but I will be bringing home quite a catalogue of works to help bring the process to a successful end. It’s also great on a physical level as the food here has been both delicious and healthy for me. I don’t expect to come home all that lighter than I when I left, but I will come home stronger and in better health in my body, mind, and soul. If I accomplish nothing more than that, this time of renewal and study will have been a great success. I thank you for your continued prayers as no doubt they are in large part the reason that this sabbatical has been such a great experience.  So one month down and three more to go before I return.  Hopefully by then winter will have surrendered its grip on all of you up there.
