Notes from Fr. Tim:
1) Last weekend was chock full of happy events! ‘Congratulations’ to Sara Conroy and Daniel Gawne who were wed in Chapeau on Saturday. ‘Welcome’ to Kendrick Rousell-Fleming (Karolann and Derek Fleming) and Beau Christopher Lorne Burton (Kristeen and Joshua Burton) who were baptized on Sunday. And of course ‘best wishes’ for the 13 children who received their first confession and communion too! Bravo to you all!

2) Bible Study is postponed this week as I will be out of town attending the wedding of a friend. Fr. Howard Chabot will replace me at the weekend masses and Fr. Tom Fitzpatrick will celebrate the wedding of Lindsay Sheppard and Darren Ranger on Saturday. Thank you to both of them for filling me for me and allowing me to attend the marriage ceremony in Dallas, Tx.

3) Well folks, we’ve finally had the St. Joseph’s bell tower repaired. When I asked the contractor (Irvcon Roofing) if they found any surprises when they began the work they stated that the only one was that the bell had not yet fallen through the roof! Thank God for that eh? Evidently, the decking that held it up was completely rotted through! But it has all been replaced and clad in rubber and metal to keep it watertight for many years to come. (The bell was forged in 1912.) All we need to do now is pay for the repairs (hint, hint).

4) Have you signed up to purchase any coffee in our Sheenboro fundraiser for St. Bryce’s Mission in Costa Rica yet? This group of volunteers works with expecting mothers and through their efforts, they have reduced the infant mortality rate by over 50% in the past 10 years. They are well deserving of our support. Coffee can be ordered through almost any parishioner from Sheenboro or by calling the Parish Office.

5) Pembroke Area Mission will be held at St. Columbkille Cathedral October 1-3, 2018. Please hold these dates open and mark your calendars now. Internationally known lay evangelist and author, John Pridmore, a former gangster from England who experienced a miraculous conversion will speak each evening at 7:15. One observer described his conversion as that of “a modern-day Saint Paul.” He had it all and it counted as nothing until he found ‘the pearl of great price’. Mr. Pridmore will also address student assemblies in Renfrew, Pembroke and Barry’s Bay. Read more about this mission in the soon to be released summer edition of Ecclesia.
