Don’t forget the CWL Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 10th (7:00 p.m.) at Harrington Community Centre.   You are more than welcome to join us for a few games and music.  Anyone attending is asked to bring a small plate of goodies to share.  The “Money Tree” donations will go to the Bouffe Pontiac” this year.  Do join us and bring a friend.

St. Alphonsus ParishWould envelope users #63, #103, #111, and #117 kindly put their name and address on the envelope or in the envelope so we can enter your name in the system.  Thank you.

St. Joseph’s C.W.L:  We are having our “turkey raffle” again this year.  Five Dollars a bag (one dollar a ticket).  The draw will be on the 19th of December at our luncheon.  Our cookies will be delivered that day also.  There is nothing left of our $20 fee.  This year they have added 50 cents insurance for each member.  National per capita fee (Per Member) is $13.00, Provincial $3.00, Diocesan $3.50 and now insurance 50 cents for a total of $20.00.  So, as you can see, we need a fundraiser.  Nothing left.  Again, I thank you for your generosity and support.

There will be a short C.W.L meeting on Thursday, December 5th at 9:15 a.m. in the sacristy.

Thanks.     Donna

Attention Seniors:  The Young at Heart Christmas Party will be held this Wednesday, December 4th at 1:00 p.m.  Roast Beef by Cheryl Smith $22.00 per person. B.Y.O.B.

FATHER TIM’S CHRISTMAS COOKIE ELVES:  are gearing up for another festive season. If you would like to be a cookie-baking elf, please call Bernie at 819-689-5223. According to the new rules, cookies must not contain any nuts, coconut, or peanut butter.  Good luck & Happy baking.  Cookies will be needed on the 10th of December at 2 p.m. at the church. Thanks so much for all your help!

St. Alphonsus Children’s Christmas Pageant and Choir:  It’s that time of the year again!  Our Children’s Christmas Pageant will take place during our 7 pm Christmas Eve Mass at St. Alphonsus Church.  We are looking for angels, kings and shepherds aged 4 and up who would love to participate.  We would also love to welcome older participants to join our choir that will lead our mass and pageant in the singing of lovely Christmas Hymns.  If you are interested in either the pageant or the choir, please join us for our first practice this Sunday, December 1st at 11:30 a.m. or call Helen Chartrand at 613-312-9249 to sign-up.  Thank you!  Practice dates: December 8th, 15th and 22nd.

Bishop Thomas Dowd, auxiliary bishop of Montreal, has accepted to offer a parish mission in our churches next year (2020). Keep an eye out for an announcement in December for the dates and try to keep some space in your schedule to participate.

Fr. Tim Notes:
1) Happy New Year!! Really. No, I mean it… Happy New Year! With the arrival of the 1st Sunday of Advent, we begin a new year in the Church calendar with its own set of Sunday readings and prayers. Just as our civic New Year’s celebrations are usually marked with resolutions and commitments to do things better in the year ahead, so too, we can make similar decisions to rededicate ourselves to better love God and each other in the Church year to come.

One of the best ways that I know of to grow in our commitment to love is to participate in the activities our parishes offer us. Activities such as our Eucharistic Adoration programs and our Adult Catechism courses. Adoring Christ in the Blessed Sacrament deepens our love for him as well as permitting him to furrow deeper into our hearts, minds, and souls to help us grow more rooted in our faith. Learning anew what the Church teaches helps us to more faithfully live out our obligations to each other as well as strengthening our commitment to God. Both activities serve to help us better live our lives as practicing, witnessing Catholic Christians.

Why not open yourself up to the possibility of growing in your knowledge and devotion by resolving to participate in one or both of these activities? Spending an extra hour each week with God will pay rich dividends now and, in the life to come. It’s a small price to pay for what is promised to be a great prize at the end of our days when we encounter Christ face to face.

2) The St. Joseph’s Eucharistic Adoration begins this week! The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on Thursday and Friday evenings from 7 pm to 8 pm.

3) Congratulations to Rikki-Lee and Matt Allard whose baby Emersyn Loretta Lois was baptized last Sunday in Chapeau.

4) Regarding the children’s catechism program: If your child still has not picked up their required workbooks for their class you can obtain it from Pauline at the Parish office during office hours. As it has been, the cost remains $10.00 to obtain their workbook.   Mass attendance is a REQUIRED component of the program and children must get their attendance sheet signed after Mass in the sacristy.  The next Catechism class will be held on Sunday, December 1st at 9:15 a.m. at D.W.K.S.  Thank you!
