Notes from Fr. Tim: |
1) Well, we’re finally back to our regular schedules again as Epiphany brings the Christmas season to an end. I hope that everyone enjoyed the festive season both in the churches and at home. We journey now through a short period before we begin the season of Lent on Valentines Day (Feb, 14) in preparation for the paschal feast of Easter (April 1st). Hopefully, we will have thawed out from all this bitter cold before then.
2) There are three more events this week to mark on your calendars for this week. On Wednesday we will view the last episode of the video series ‘Catholicism’ following the 10 am mass in Chapeau. Bible Study group reconvenes on Thursday at 7 pm in St. Joseph’s. And on Friday following the 10 am mass in St. Joseph’s we will present the 3rd video in the ‘Pivotal Players‘ series looking at figures who influenced our Catholic faith. This week we will view the episode on G.K. Chesterton. 3) We ask your prayers for the repose of the soul of Willietta Gaudette (nee Tierney) of Chichester whose funeral was celebrated in Chapeau this past Friday. Please keep her family in your prayers. 4) As we celebrate the Feast of Epiphany this weekend, we are reminded that the Wise men who visited the infant child Jesus were considered the scientists of their day. (They were astrologers.) Each time this day rolls around I remember a quote from Pope St. John Paul II about the relationship between faith and reason. He stated that faith that’s not supported by reason is little more than an empty superstition whereas reason that denies faith builds a solid house, but it’s one without windows. Let’s pray that we will maintain a proper balance between these two schools of knowledge so that we let our faith enlighten our rationality and our reason to support our faith. 5) A priest, a minister, and a rabbi are discussing when life begins. The priests says, “It begins at conception”. The minister says, “Life begins at 24 weeks gestation”. The rabbi says, “You are both wrong, Life begins when the kids move out of the house and the dog dies.” |
