Surrounded by her CSJ Sisters and her nieces, Sister Rita passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2018. She was in her 78th year of Religious Life as a Sister of St. Joseph in Canada, Pembroke Neighbourhood. Sister was born in Chapeau, Quebec, a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Carroll). Left to celebrate her life among us are her Sisters in the Congregation, her brother Clifford, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her twin brother Carl, her brothers, Anthony, James and Michael and her sisters Elsie (Roach), Beatrice (McHale), Teresa (Montgomery), Lucy Bowers and Mary Bowers. Sister Rita spent many years serving her community at convent locations in Calaboge, Killaloe, Douglas, Pembroke, Renfrew, Chapeau Quebec and Barrhead Alberta. She became an R.N.A. in 1968 and served in hospitals in Barry’s Bay and Regina Saskatchewan, as well as the infirmary in the Motherhouse in Pembroke. Her greatest ministry was pastoral care for those in need which she was able to do in her hometown of Chapeau Quebec for many years. Sister Rita’s smile was infectious, she always enjoyed a good card game, loved music and had great devotion to Mary. Visitation will be at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel in Pembroke beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, December 6th, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke.
